The July 2026 Outbreak

What Happened

In July 2026, the CDC and FDA announced an investigation into a Cyclospora outbreak. The investigation identified shredded iceberg lettuce served at Taco Bell locations in five states as the suspected source.

Federal investigators traced the lettuce to Taylor Farms, a farm in Mexico where the outbreak is believed to have begun, and Taylor Farms has now recalled all iceberg lettuce from their farm in Central Mexico that is in the U.S. market. Thus far the CDC believes that thousands of people have been affected — and the number continues to rise.

Cyclospora Food Poisoning

Were You Affected?

Cyclospora is a microscopic parasite. When people eat food or drink water that is contaminated with Cyclospora, they can get an intestinal illness called cyclosporiasis.

If you became seriously ill after eating Taco Bell during the outbreak period, you may qualify if:

  • You ate Taco Bell during the outbreak period
  • You ate at a location in Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, or West Virginia — or potentially another state
  • You developed severe gastrointestinal illness afterward
  • You tested positive for Cyclospora, or received medical treatment consistent with cyclosporiasis
  • You missed work or incurred medical expenses

Please note: completion of this evaluation does not guarantee compensation. Each project has specific qualifying criteria, and the criteria may change from time to time.
